Preferred Specimen(s) 7 mL whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube Minimum Volume 5 mL Collection Instructions Do not refrigerate or freeze. Specimens submitted in ACD (yellow-top) tubes will no longer be accepted because of the high incidence of platelet clumping associated with this anticoagulant. If the platelet count is less than 20000/ccm submit 7-10 mL of whole blood. Platelet Count Minimum Volume >=45000 2 mL 20000-45000 5 mL <=20000 10 mL Pediatric minimum volume: The minimum volume is platelet count dependent. If possible submit at least 1 mL EDTA blood.
